Canoe Tree

This old eucalyptus tree is over 200 years old. Long ago, Aboriginal people carved a large (2-3M) section of bark from it to make a canoe (see PiP) . It is one of the few trees used for this purpose still surviving and hence the fence to indicate its significance and to give some protection. There is a sign giving details (also in PiP). UPDATE: I realised when I posted this that I didn't have a shot of the bark removal area - I've now added one in the PiP.
Happy Fence Friday and have a good weekend, everyone.

We loved the Eucalyptus trees when we were there - so different from what we-re used to seeing. Mostly Ponderosa pine here in our area. Great photo and info, George.

Interesting that they cut the tree bark for their own use and did not chop it down. Natural conservationists & lovers of nature.
HFF George. Have a great w/e.
