A STONE BASTION BETWEEN LAND AND SEA. Brouage is a 16th-century fortified citadel. Nestled amongst ancient salt marshes and vast swamps, this former European capital of salt was once a port with a thriving trade – before the ocean gradually receded, tide after tide. The coastline has silted up, and the citadel now lies 3 km from the ocean.
EINE STEINERNE BASTEI ZWISCHEN LAND UND MEER. Brouage ist eine befestigte Zitadelle aus dem 16. Jh.
