Steve, are you near London? If so, you might really enjoy the new exhibition on mudlarking at the Museum of London Docklands. I'm planning to see it soon.
I read the book by Laura Maiklen a while ago. It’s a connection I hadn’t really thought about, but I think it’s relevant to these bits and pieces. I’ve passed through London a couple of times recently, but missed this exhibition. I’ll certainly try to catch it if I get down there, thanks for the steer.
The mudlarking exhibition is on until March 2026, so you have plenty of time. I haven't read the Laura Maiklen book yet, but I've seen some YouTube videos featuring her. If this sort of thing interests you, I highly recommend the book London Clay by Tom Chivers. Not totally about mudlarking, but more about the layers and layers of London history and how we can connect to that history today. He's a poet and his writing is lyrical and lovely. I went to a talk he did, including letting us handle some of the objects he found on the foreshore of the Thames on his walks with his little kiddos during lockdown. He's a really charming bloke.
