Santa Laura - plaza and bandstand

Humberstone and Santa Laura saltpeter works are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
At Humberstone the company town remained intact, at Santa Laura it's the industrial complex. What's left of the former town is more or less only this bandstand at the plaza.

Vielen Dank, Maik! In dieser Höhe (um 2000m) und in der Wüste ist fast immer blauer Himmel- keine 50km entfernt an der Küste dafür dicker grauer Nebel... Grüße Gudrun

Absolutely stunning; like the loneliness of the place.

Gudrun replied to Jaap van 't Veen:

Thanks, Jaap! There were a lot places like this in the Atacama desert during the saltpeter boom, now most are gone.

Jaap van 't Veen replied to Gudrun:

Missed that part of Chile during our visit (part of an Around the World trip).

Gudrun replied to Jaap van 't Veen:

Chile is such a long country it's near impossible to see the sights in one go. I visited the South (Patagonia) 3 times, twice the north. But as these visits were always combined with Argentina or Bolivia I still haven't seen all I'd like to see;-)

You must come back one day and see the Atacama and the Altiplano!

Danke dir, Volker! Jaja, der Herr Sloman... Der und die diversen Engländer sind auf Kosten der chilenischen Arbeiter reich geworden.
