Oficina Salitrera Santa Laura

Humberstone and Samta Laura Saltpeter Works were inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage in 2005 and immediatelely put on the list of world heritage in danger (until 2019) to get funds for preserving and stabilizing the remaining buildings.
There had been extensive damage partly due to earthquakes but also because of looting. The harsh desert climate in combination with wind and coastal fog (camanchaca) had left most surfaces covered with a mixture of sand and salt, corroding the metal parts.

The textures of the wood look great in black and white. The play between light and shadow works well too. Have a great day, Gudrun. All the best, Joe

Gudrun replied to Joe, Son of the Rock:

Thanks a lot, Joe! The light in the desert was pretty harsh which made for good contrasts.

Stark! Sieht aus wie in einem alten Kinostreifen... Ob die "Peking" von dort aus auch Salpeter nach Europa gebracht hat?

Gudrun replied to LotharW:

Danke vielmals, Lothar! Vom ca. 45 km entfernten Hafen in Iquique ganz sicher! Bis dorthin gab's damals meines Wissens eine Bahnlinie, um den Salpeter zu befördern.

A lovely high contrast study in light and shade Gudrun. Nicely composed with super detail in the wood, especially when viewed large. Perfect in black and white.

The contre jour shot in the PiP is excellent.......also with lovely light and shade and semi-silhouetted detail. I like the sunburst too.

Excellent work..!!
