Peter_Private_Box replied to Rosalyn Hilborne:

Hi Rosa,

Thank you so much for your visit here. They were growing wild by the sea shore. Maybe they were quietly singing..Maybe a song about how happy and peaceful it is there!
Glad you like them!

Gorgeous flowers and a lovely background bokeh! Here we only see them at florists or in botanical gardens...

Thank you so much Gudrun!

I am so pleased that you like them. I did see quite a few at the florists too, but I thought this wild pair made a much nice picture!

Good shot Peter. Curious that they, a South African plant, are named for a bird from Papua-New Guinea. images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?fr2=lf&p=bird+of+paradise&ei=UTF-8&fr=sfp&rd=r2

Hi Graham

Thank you for visiting, and the link. I have no idea how the name cam about, but thinking of how the meanings of words can change even in our lifetime, I do wonder if it had some other name originally, and popular usage (and globalisation) changed it to something more fitting.

Best Wishes
