Shrubby Penstemon

Photographed in Blewett Pass in eastern Washington on a rainy day, this is one of our many native Penstemons and a plant that was very important to the native tribes. It was used to make an eyewash, a wash for rheumatism, and a medication for kidney and stomach troubles. Many Penstemons are used as garden plants, but I do not know if this one is.
