Ürümqi market, Xinjiang, China. It was -17°C and snowploughs and armies of people were clearing the snow. It was bitterly cold. I thought the figures here were statues, as they stood motionless for over an hour, but they were real soldiers!
They must have been frozen! Now that IS a hardship post.
After I took the photo someone said.. ‘ make sure you don’t photograph the soldiers’.
Too late, she cried…
