The station was in effect closed. No booking office, and the main foyer, where this bench is, was also closed. There was a side gate open for those who wanted to catch a train, but I don't know what they did about buying tickets. Is this typical of the railway in Llandudno? Maybe a local could tell me more.

No ticket office and the like- could be in Germany;-) Here you are supposed to get your tickets online/via app or at one of the few stations that still have ticket offices. If you don't have internet you surely have kids or grandkids who can do it for you:-(
