Is there going to be any discussions about allowing A.I. pictures that people don't take themselves? A lot of times, I have to take the picture, develop the film, and scan the negative into the computer; while others don't have to do anything and let the A.I. "take" their picture. That's not the reason why I joined Ipernity. I joined a "photo" sharing website.

A.I. can be found all over the internet - please don't let it ruin Ipernity as well.

A.I. will not be discussed at the IGA.

However, after the IGA, the team will, be looking into ways to allow individual members to block AI tagged content (it appears that most if not all our members that post A.I. are doing correctly tagging their content).

I have quit sites like Deviant Art because they forced AI on artists without our consent, then made excuses for it. If AI is so wonderful, people can freely choose it. Force is not choice. :/

Je pense que le sujet de l'IA devrait être inscrit à l'ordre du jour. C'est un vrai débat de société, notamment à travers le pillage des droits d'auteurs en toute impunité, pour alimenter l'IA. L'absence de règles strictes sur IP et -semble-t-il, le refus du débat de certains administrateurs- a déjà entrainé le départ de plusieurs membres. D'autres, dont je fais partie, se posent la question... Ip a une fonctionnement coopératif unique, qui fait qu'il appartient à ses membres. Je propose que tous les membres votent pour savoir si ils acceptent ou non l'les photo truquées à l'IA.

als Fotograf kann ich eure Bedenken gut verstehen. Gerade deshalb glaube ich aber, dass sich das Thema KI nicht sinnvoll mit einem einfachen Ja oder Nein beantworten lässt. Es ist zu komplex und berührt viele Übergangszonen. Bevor man über irgendetwas abstimmt, müsste man erst gemeinsam klären, worüber genau: Was soll erlaubt sein, was nicht? Wie soll gekennzeichnet werden? Und was ist technisch und personell überhaupt überprüfbar? Das alles lässt sich nicht sauber in eine bloße Abstimmung pressen.

Ich möchte zwei Beispiele zeigen:

Das erste basiert auf einer echten Aufnahme. Ich kann das RAW dazu vorlegen. Allerdings habe ich den Hintergrund ausgetauscht. Früher hätte man so etwas mühsam durch klassisches Composing gemacht, mit viel Handarbeit an den Übergängen. Heute geht das mit KI deutlich einfacher. Im Grunde ist das Verfahren etabliert, nur das Werkzeug ist moderner.

Das zweite: Ich habe ein altes Foto aus Kinderzeiten mit AI-Tools optimiert.

Solche Verfahren sind inzwischen Standard und eine enorme Hilfe. Dabei können jedoch Artefakte entstehen. Vor allem Gesichter sind kritisch. Aber es könnte auch sein, dass beispielsweise ein Strickpullover andere Maschen bekommt. Dokumentarisch echt ist das Kinderbild also nicht mehr. Reuters oder Associated Press würden es ablehnen. Dennoch zeigt es mich als Kind sehr authentisch.

Meine Frage ist: Soll jeder technische Fortschritt grundsätzlich draußen bleiben? Soll ich mein neues Smartphone Galaxy S24 wegwerfen, weil es mit integrierter KI Bilder optimiert, und nur noch mit einer alten Kamera fotografieren? Das wäre lebensfremd. Gerade unterwegs – etwa beim Skifahren oder Klettern – ist ein Smartphone oft schlicht das praktischere Werkzeug.

Menschen machen seit Jahrtausenden Bilder mit den Mitteln ihrer Zeit, um etwas auszudrücken. Malerei war nie reine Wirklichkeitskopie, sondern immer auch Interpretation. Und auch wir als Fotografen wollen meist nicht nur dokumentieren, sondern Stimmungen vermitteln, Geschichten erzählen, Gefühle sichtbar machen. Wenn man Bildgestaltung nur noch unter dem engen Maßstab dokumentarischer oder wissenschaftlicher Genauigkeit zulässt, schließt man einen großen Teil fotografischer Praxis aus – und damit vermutlich auch viele Mitglieder.

Gerade deshalb wünsche ich mir keine vorschnelle Frontstellung, sondern eine offene, differenzierte Diskussion. Das Thema gehört auf die Tagesordnung – aber so, dass es der Komplexität gerecht wird.

I understand the desire for there to be a discussion about AI. However, for this IGA it is too late to add something to the agenda. (Note that the membership was informed of the date for the IGA on 6 February, and notice of the deadline for agenda items - 8 March - was given on 27 February.)

fyi - If you mean the ima team/board when you say some administrators have refused to discuss AI, that is not the case. A particular motion brought to the team for the IGA was withdrawn by the authors of that motion. The team did not refuse to keep the motion.
As there is an interest in discussing AI, the team will look into creating a place to hold that discussion after the IGA.

Je suis 100% d'accord avec Jean-Luc ! J'ai renouvelé mon adhésion à Ipernity encore cette année par fidélité à ce site que je connais depuis ses débuts ... mais ce sera la dernière fois ! Tout devient très compliqué ici et je n'ai plus envie à mon âge de choses compliquées ! Ipernity ressemble de plus en plus à Flickr ... alors autant continuer sur l'original !
J'ai aussi un site / blog personnel dont j'ai mis l'adresse pendant un moment ... seuls 2 Ipernitiens ( que je remercie grandement) sont venus le visiter !!! Alors comme dit le proverbe: "Chacun chez soi et les vaches seront bien gardées" !

I don't want to see artists who enjoy using AI thrown off the site. I would like there to be required clarification when and if people are using AI for their work, however. I use Photoshop frequently, and I always have a tag for it when I do so. I don't want viewers to think that I'm hiding the tools I use so much.

I would also like assurance from our leadership that they won't follow in the footsteps of some other image sharing sites. I want to know that images we individuals post won't be taken without our consent and used to train AI. The default should be "Opt out" and not "Opt in." If we can't cover this in March, perhaps we could at some later date. Thanks.

To be clear, the ima team has always dealt with any child pornography images we have been notified about in a timely fashion. I'm sorry if you thought that wasn't true.
