It's so cold - and it's Easter this weekend!!!!
Well it's going to be Easter this weekend, a time when the Spring is supposed to be half way through and the temperatures warm - what's happened this year, is that the temperatures have plummited and is crawling along in the 40F's or should I say 6C!!!! It's ridiculous - with the cost of the electricity spiralling out of control, I've tried not to have the radiator on, but it's too cold to go without any heating at all - so my halogen fire is facing me and I'm okay now!!!

It was rather overcast today - so no surprise it was cold, then blue sky came along this afternoon and I wanted to get out onto the driveway to see the bluebells. Isn't it funny, but you see blue sky and the sun and something in your brain says - it's going to be warm outside?!!!!

Well I went out through the back door and I wasn't too disappointed because it was in the lea of the wind - I went round the corner of the house and ........ it was Baltic!!! The wind could have cut like a knife. So I didn't hang around and shot out to take the pictures of the bluebells. Not a lot of them were out - but it's a start isn't it?

Then I saw that my flowering cherry was starting to bud, so I obviously had to take a picture of that.....

I then saw the rose - I'm really shocked that it's still growing - it needs a lot of care and attention and I can't do it. I'm going to have to put it on the list of jobs for Emily to do!!!! Ha ha.

I then saw some primroses in a pot - now I haven't planted any in a pot, so it's self seeded - great!

It was while I was photographing this, that I became aware of a tiny bird hopping its way towards me. It was a robin. He wasn't in the least bit scared of me - probably because now I didn't have Pippin with me. He hopped over and I said "hello" and he came nearer. I took some pictures of him, but I was shivering from the cold and so they weren't very good - not like the pictures you all show on here. Besides I just had my point and press camera - not an expensive one with all the "bells and whistles" on it.

He was so cute and not in the least phased by me being there. I hope that when it's warmer and I go out and sit down, that he'll visit me again and maybe even hop onto my hand - now wouldn't that be something else?

Well I came in pretty quickly - and I've only just started to warm up. The fleece jacket is what's keeping me warm - that and the fire near me. I hope everyone has a good week to come..... and a very happy Easter if I don't write anything between now and then!!!!

Robins love meal worms Jenny, I have had a robin sitting on my hand to eat them. A small packet doesn't cost a lot and it might just tempt the robin to hop onto your hand or maybe fly to collect a meal worm from you. I had a robin hovering over my hand to pick up a meal worm this week. It then sat 2 feet away from me when I put some meal worms onto a nearby wooden shelf. Today I had one sharing a bench with me :) I just posted a photo of my friendly robin.

Oh thanks for this Steve - your photos of birds are simply stunning, which is why I was apologetic for my meagre offerings!!! I'll ask my neighbours to get me some mealworms - they've got lots of bird tables in their garden - maybe they can spare a few. How wonderful for you - to have it sitting on your hand to eat mealworms.

Thank you for the show and tell, Jenny! Loved the flowers, aren't they wonderful to see? Sorry it's so cold...we are dealing with the same conditions here, actually and it's a bummer but what can you do?! :P But you sure got a reward for your determination...that robin is so very dear. And even if you didn't get as close a picture as you would have liked, you did get a picture and we can all fill in the blanks for detail! :) I have the same issue from time to time and in the end, it's just wonderful to see that picture anyway because it brings us right back to the wonderful seconds! :) I do hope that that little doll comes back for a visit on a warmer day! :)

Jenny McIntyre replied to Janet Brien:

Oh thanks Janet, yes I hope the little robin comes back too - it's probably because Pippin is no longer walking about. I must admit I've seen more birds walking around on the drive since Pippin died.

I hope you are having a great holiday and I look forward to seeing more of your beautiful country through your pictures.

It should warm up soon. Although I swear we have 20 degree differences regularly. Love the flowers. Its amazing to me how many just grow without help in your garden. That lil bird is so cute.
Happy Easter Jenny.

Yes I haven't planted any plants in my garden for years Gracie. What I have planted are in pots anyway. The garden is allowed to go anywhere it wants - naturally. I hope to see the little robin again - well anything really.

Happy Easter to you too.

Hi Jenny, nice to see your early flowers ... and that Robin. Cute in bucket-loads !
If you can't get mealworms easily [we get our big bags of dried 'worms on-line], many robins will accept grated cheese. One of last year's brood got quite fond of cheese and he would stay quite close. Mind you, since we put out a lot of bird & [red] squirrel food, so it follows that our most local birds are well habituated to us. I must do some more pictures ...
We've got an easterly wind at present, and it is bitingly cold and even more so when the air's damp, as it is today.
I managed to take advantage of it being dry yesterday, and we cut all our grassed areas - plus, we finished off a little bit more tree care.

Oh thanks for the tip - I'll grate a bit of cheese and see what happens. I've been lucky the last couple of days, there hasn't been a lot of wind, so it's been warm - in fact on Friday it was 22C which shocked me and I actually had the window open in the lounge again - wonderful. Today though it's 12C which is ridiculous. I can't cut my grass, and Emily only comes tomorrow, so as long as it's not wet, I'll ask her to cut my grass.

Great photos, and you got so close to that robin.
It's been so cold lately that I find it hard to believe that we're almost half way through April. A bit warmer today though it's been raining a lot too.
Cherry blossom here is out, looking lovely, though my bluebells have yet to open; just green shoots and some buds thus far.
Have a good week, and a lovely Easter.

Yes it's going back to being cold again isn't it? I'm thrilled to notice that apple blossom is on its way - my neighbours have already got their apple blossom out. I must admit I do love apple blossom, so pretty and colourful.

Have a great week to come
