Thinking pacifies me.
Writing tires and bores me.

I spend long time ruminating an easy way
Successfuly most times - friends tell me!
I'm as happy as Archimedes.

I leave the great novels to Charles Dickens and Leon Tolstoy
and the great poems to great poets.

I'm glad with the idea that my little books
fil in the urn of my ashes.

When death comes
the farewell from who will not upset you never more
will be prompt.
Escrever cansa e aborrece-me.

Passo longas horas a ruminar uma maneira fácil
de dizer uma coisa difícil.

Quase sempre bem sucedida - dizem-me os amigos!
Fico tão radiante como Arquimedes.

Deixo os grandes romances para Charles Dickens e Leon Tolstoy
e os grandes poemas para grandes poetas.

Fico feliz com a ideia de que os meus pequenos livros
cabem na urna de minhas cinzas.

Quando a morte chegar
será rápida a despedida
de quem nunca mais vos irá provocar.
