Interesting
This past week has been 'interesting.' As regular readers will know, I was asked to swap a shift, and worked 6 days in a row. Monday night, the 6th day, I was exhausted. I slept for 6 hours solid which is a huge amount of sleep for me, got up for a comfort break, then awoke again some 3 hours later. I was shocked at how much I'd slept! It was good though.

The actual shift didn't go that well in that I barged an end of aisle bollard trying to avoid somebody, and hurt my arm, again. Luckily I was out the back and had to turn away from my manager whilst I silently cursed and fought back tears. I had more pain killers that day! Maybe that's why I slept so well?

During the week I was asked if I'd be interested in changing the one shift to a later start on a Friday so that I'd be available to work later in the day due to lack of staff working that late. Again, I couldn't think of a good reason why not lol, so agreed to a change in my contract. One staff member was very cross about it, though nobody forced me to accept the change, and looking on the bright side, I get a lie-in!

This week, following an edict from the government, much stock has been moved around so that items high in fat/sugar are not so readily seen. Thursday was a terrible day for picking; stock had been moved overnight, and most of it hadn't been 'mapped' for us pickers so time was lost looking for items for our customers.

Friday did not go as planned. I had a nice lie-in, a leisurely breakfast, and I was just getting ready to leave for work when my son showed me his leg. He's been on antibiotics since Monday for an 'infection' but it's not getting better, it's been getting worse. He popped to the health centre nearby to ask for an emergency appointment however none were available. Ridiculous! He accepted an appointment at the main clinic but that meant I had to drive him, so couldn't go to work. I phoned them up and explained the situation, and stated I'd be in when I could. My son has to see a specialist for his Raynaud's as this is a complication of that. I arrived in work just over 2 hours late. To compound matters, we finished picking half hour early, so I lost 2.5 hours pay!

Luckily I was able to get 3 hours overtime between Saturday and Sunday so that'll make up the shortfall in my pay. Phew!

Other than that, the week has ticked over nicely. I'm off to have a well-earned shot of whiskey and now have 2 days to rest and recuperate; I don't plan on doing much :)

Last, but by no means least, Happy 4th July to any Americans on the site, especially Gracie and her family. Have a great day!

It's been a case of roundabout and swings with you this week Fran. I'm really sorry to hear about your son's Raynaud's - it's not nice. It sounds a good idea for you to change your shift, as long as it benefits you. I'm also sorry to hear that you hurt your arm again - and why on earth didn't the "powers that be" tell you all where the items had been moved to? Have a great week anyway.

Thanks Jenny. My wrist is still a little sore from the 'bump' though mostly I'm ok; I'm such a klutz lol.

I'm a 'glass half full' type of person (optimist) an extra day to lie-in is great as far as I'm concerned. Getting up around 4.30 am, 5 days in a row is hard work, so a break from that is not to be sneezed at. It works for them, for me too, so no problems.

Oh I would be so happy not to have to get up at 4:30! Since I rarely sleep before 3 or 4 am I’d be a complete zombie and not the partial zombie I am now! Lol!
Ouch on the arm! Just when things are improving. Glad its not too bad though still ouch.
9 hours total sleep?? Wow!! Thats amazing! Although pre older years if I didn’t get 8 preferably 9 hours I was a total grouch! Lol!
I hope you’re able to get that specialist appointment for your son soon. You know what I think. How could you not, Im not exactly shy of my opinions!
Thank you for the holiday wishes. Low key weekend as most are away including my daughter. Plus its too hot to hang around outside

Thanks Gracie. Yes, an extra day to lie-in :)

I too used to regularly sleep 8 hours a night. As I've gotten older, this is not the case. 5 hours solid sleep is a good average so Monday night, plus the extra 3 hours was a real bonus. I must have been shattered.

Wish it was a tad warmer here. For the time of year it's dull and cool with frequent showers. I still have a fleecy on in the mornings and evenings too as it's not that warm. Better than Sydney though with its floods and torrential rain. Not good.
