Three Little Words
Sunday, I remarked to a colleague that I wish customers would learn, and use, three little words. No, I don’t want any of them saying I love you, though in truth one or two are pretty tasty lol. I was picking Sunday, trying to hurry as it was so busy, when I looked up and noted a man was glowering at me. I had no way of knowing I was in his way, he said nothing, so I moved, but all he had to say was Excuse me please. 3 little words, I would happily have moved, but to glower at me and expect me to be psychic? Pfft.

Earlier in the week I was the ‘butt’ of much teasing. I was late back from a pick and the woman who had been ‘mean’ to me last week said she was worried about me as I’d been gone so long. I explained I had a huge order to fill as there were no small orders for me and it had taken me a while. I’m supposed to be on light duties. The supervisor then stated that I had simply popped out to the local McD (blech!) for breakfast LMAO. Anyway, much banter ensued and later, I told her she’d cheered me up as I was feeling a bit low as I was in pain. My collar bone is still swollen (soft tissue damage) and now my wrist has swollen to the point where I can no longer wear my watch. Hey, I’m old school, I like wearing a watch. Some bones on each side of my wrist are badly swollen too and I have no strength in my wrist; can’t even lift a cup of coffee! I have a high pain threshold, so for me to feel in pain, means I really am in pain. Thankfully, I’d managed to get a GP appointment.

The doctor I saw was very nice, very helpful. She showed me pictures of the shoulder and clavicle and explained that I have bony spurs or osteophytes on these joints which are causing the pain. I showed her my swollen wrist, and bump, and she stated these are the same thing. I’ve been fine for so long, I’m not that old, so no idea why this flare up now. She’s prescribed me stronger pain meds than I can get over the counter – this way they’re free too! She recommended an anti-inflammatory gel which I’ve already used, and she said to see how the physio sessions go. If none of it helps, then she’ll refer me to the hospital for further investigation, though I’m hopeful these will do the trick. I also bought a tubular support bandage for my wrist to use whilst I’m in work to see if that eases things.

The past 4 weeks, I worked an extra 5 hours each week. The money will be nice, though it’s been tiring. The week just gone; I only did an extra 2 hours on the Sunday so that was a nice change. We have around 4 new starters so that’s taken the pressure off a little.

I have 6 more days in work including an extra shift for bank holiday Monday, then I’m off for 8 days in total; can’t wait! :)

Sorry you've had to add wrist pain to the list. Its hard because your hands are always doing something. And resting is the most helpful but obviously difficult. "The Golden years" as my mother used to say. "Can kiss my arse"! Lol! About as close as my mom got to cursing.. Glad you at least got in to see the dr That 8 days off is much needed!

Thanks Gracie.
Golden years - that made me laugh and I empathise with that statement! Beats the alternative I guess :)

Yes, I have housework to do though I'll take my time, and I do intend to ensure I get plenty of rest during my 8 days off.

Oh that sounds so painful, Fran. I had tenosynovitis when I was working as a secretary and it was because of the pain in both arms, that I was signed off. As well as good pain relief, I was also given supports for both hands, with a metal piece going down the centre of the support, which went along the palm of my hand. This meant that I wasn't able to bend my hands much which relieved the pain. Maybe ask for one of those to help you. Also it's a physical sign that you are in pain, so maybe the "powers that be" will not give you large orders to pick.

I have to wait until end of May to see physio, and will see what they say. The tubular support bandage does help.

Oh, no danger of that! We're all being chastised about our pick rates, so I'll have to start picking bigger orders to get mine back up. It's that, or possibly lose our jobs. Meanwhile, I keep my eyes open for other vacancies in store.
