Despite what some people think, this week I’ve been working hard. I had planned to do less hours in the week, then work an extra shift on Monday (tomorrow) though my supervisor had other ideas; she cancelled my Monday shift and asked me to work extra during the week. In the end, I did about 25% extra hours. The one day I did more than 7 hours which is a lot for me, bearing in mind how physical the job is. Oh, and by the way, I’m injured! A colleague asked what time I was going home, and when I answered her, she replied: that’s makes a nice change. Usually you’re swanning off early, leaving the rest of us feeling jealous. OMG! I was dumbstruck! It’s not the first time someone has commented that I leave early, and on more than one occasion I’ve had to remind people that I’m employed on a part time basis, and I’ll stay only if I’m asked to. Next time I get a snarky remark like that, I shall tell them to take it up with the supervisor or my manager if they have an issue with my hours. I never ask people what time they’re working until, or what days they’re in: it’s none of my business!

This week we learned the result of the pay negotiations, and the result was a pleasant surprise. It will be the biggest percentage pay rise I’ve ever had, though as mentioned above, I’m only part time so the increase each month won’t be huge, though every little helps.

We’ve had new uniform too and nobody seems keen on it. There was nothing wrong with the old one. What a waste of money and resources. The trousers are simply awful, so I shall return them and continue to wear my own which at least are 100% cotton. The polo shirts are either male or female, so that’s good, but the gillet (sleeveless) is unisex and it shows. It’s in two panels, and the seam sits right across… Ok if you’re a man, not so good for those of us with boobs. Mine is the same size as my old one, but it’s very ‘snug’ so I often leave it undone. Most of it is made from recycled plastic bottles, and before I’d washed it all, twice, it felt like it too! Don’t ask me how that works as I have no idea.

On the subject of clothes, this month the finances were sufficient for me to buy some new t-shirts. Well, I tried. All I want is a plain, or lightly patterned top, 100% cotton, with a V or notch neck. How hard can that be? I can’t abide crew or round neck tops; I feel like I’m being strangled. I also can’t abide scarves, or necklaces. I don’t like anything around my neck: scarves, hands… lol

Almost every morning this week it’s been a struggle to get out of bed. It’s cold, it’s dark. I’ve had to de-ice my car almost every morning, and when I leave work, it’s almost 10C warmer than when I left home. Thankfully I now have 2 days off and I plan to have a lie-in, followed by a bacon sandwich on Monday morning. I have to pop into town for a few things, but other than that, no plans except rest and relaxation :)

Have a good week, hopefully it’ll warm up again soon.

A bacon sandwich sounds so good! Maybe soon.... A good raise is nice. What's not nice is people who pay attention to other people's affairs instead of minding their own! How rude...
Never had to wear any kind of uniform thank goodness.
Enjoy your time off

Thanks Gracie. Most stores have a uniform so it's clear that we're staff. Never worn one before, at least not since school.
I always mind my own business, and just get on with my job. Shame others can't do the same. In fact when I see someone leaving, I simply say: Have a good day.

How rude - saying that you're "swanning off early!!" - you aren't getting the money neither for longer hours that they get. Well as a pensioner our rates went up 3% whilst the cost of living has gone up over 6%! How are we supposed to survive? We can't work longer hours or find jobs, so we are stuck with it - but the ministers have decided to give themselves a good rise!! I do get annoyed at the unfairness of it all. Do you remember Michael Portillo staying with a family who were on Unemployment benefit - he couldn't understand how on earth they managed to survive. He looked shocked at the money in his hand, after the rent had gone, he said he used to spend more than that for a meal out!!! He went back into the Government Offices and spoke strongly of the situation that people were in - we are the lowest paid people in Europe apparently!! Nothing was done though.

Oooh bacon sandwich sounds heavenly - my cooker has decided to play up, also it fancied losing a knob, so I can't use the oven and only one of the plates works!!! Great eh? Glad I don't have to wear a uniform, especially one that is a little "snug"!! It does save your own clothing though. Have a great week and happy Easter xx

Thanks Jenny.

It was rude of her! I shall be leaving early tomorrow LMAO

I don't remember that, though as you say, they talk a good talk, for a while, then it's the same old, same old. With my reduced occupational pension, and part time wages, we cope okay though if any big bills turned up, it would be a bit of a struggle. Lot of people worse off than me, I'm sure.

I had a nice lie in, both days, and the bacon sarnie Monday was great! It's a treat that we don't have often, though I do enjoy it now and again.
