Through the surf
As the old saying goes, "it's an ill wind...". A major Surf Boat competition was being held at another beach, but that was too exposed to dangerous surf created by a passing tropical cyclone - so the event was moved for the day to our normally quiet beach! I've never seen such a crowd or event here (see PiPs). More photos to come shortly.
By way of background information, Surf Boats were developed in the early 20th century by Australian surf life saving clubs, to rescue endangered beach swimmers. The surf life saving clubs then began having competitions with them. The beach safety role now has been taken by jet skis and zodiacs, but Surf Boat competitions remain very popular in Australia and New Zealand.
I'm very glad to report that Pauline at last came home from hospital on Friday and now is recuperating at home.
