The Scream of the countryside versus the Ice Saints

Croaking frogs, singing birds and the call of the blue peacock echoing through the countryside where I live. In the distance, a rooster crows. These are my neighbours’ pets, bringing me peace and tranquillity as I enjoy a cup of coffee on the terrace at sunset – a lovely way to end the day, every single day.

The tree on my banner is the same tree where the blue peacock sits enjoying the view and the sunset. In this photo, he is sleeping 6 metres up in a tree, keeping an eye on the yard – quite impressive, really. His cry heralds rain. It has rained a lot here, and now it’s time for the sun to shine. Tonight he shouts to Janneke Maan to ask if he can come over; he’s on his way anyway...

[The Ice Saints are Catholic saints whose feast days (name days) fall between 11 and 14 May. They are: Saint Mamertus (11 May), Saint Pancratius (12 May), Saint Servatius of Maastricht (13 May) and Saint Boniface of Tarsus (14 May). The Ice Saints mark the point after which most night frosts and the danger to plants have passed]

I wish you all a lovely week
