I would not have considered photographing this subject in B&W yet it works admirably. I prefer this composition to 'Beets (1)'. The removal of the knife strengthens the picture. There is better contrast. My eye sees the wood surface more readily. Thank you for the exposure details. I think f/8 is good for getting the best out of a lens and helps with depth of field. All these things have to be learnt and I am still a novice. Your examples help in this respect.
