Cartwheels

A very Happy Fence Friday to all, and a happy All Saints' Day to those who believe in such things. I hope your day and your weekend are pleasant and calm. Look after you and yours and any others you meet.

I walk past this house two or three times a week and have photographed it many times but always been disappointed by the picture I've taken. I like this one, though, which shows that maybe perseverance pays off. The staining on the wall is from irrigation water from the bore which contains iron. We learn to live with it in this part of WA. Adds interest to the picture, I think.

HWW, Old Owl. Der Zaun sieht aus, als wäre er aus alten Kutschenräder gemacht. ***

To me the roof looks fascinating, we have this kind of covering on barns, but on houses there are slates or roof tiles. HFF Old Owl.

Old Owl replied to Christa1004:

Hi, Christa. In Western Australia about 50 per cent of houses have tin roofs, although the quality of these is far greater than the old-fashioned kind used on barns. Our weather can be extremely hot, and metal roofs reflect the heat and thus keep the house cool. Tiles absorb heat and therefore are less energy efficient in our climate. The downside is that it can be very noisy when there is a downpour!

I love the noise of rain on tin roofs...

Christa1004 replied to Old Owl:

Thanks for your explanation, I wasn't aware of that. So metal roofs have a potential for reducing overheating in summer, and I think another heat protection would be white roofs that cool better.

Interesting comment on your photo and on the water quality, reason for the stain in the wall, but the rusty color on the yellowish paint is attractive, IMHO.
The fence is there, rusty, and the light is great, perfect I'd say.
HFF to you.

Your perseverance has paid off, John, as this image works. Reading the notes earlier about tin roofs, being under one in a hailstorm can be deafening! Very belated HFF, have a great weekend.
