A couple of years ago, a friend decided she really didn't want all the bottles in her house that she had accumulated over the decades. She was in her eighties and no longer had any desire to be drinking what was in the bottles. So she offered it all to another friend and me. We were glad to oblige her! (Although, we did leave about a third for her to give her son when he next visited from across the world.)

Slowly my wife and I have been drinking our part of the cache. There are not many bottles left, and this half-bottle of Sauternes was one of the last. We opened it this evening.

It is 36 years old but still without any fault. Clear, bright, rich, aromatic, and with no loss of sweetness that some old sweet wines apparently suffer from. Just delicious.
