myself 23, somewhere in Georgia

The straw hat I purchased shortly after arriving in Georgia was a traditional folk hat often worn by farmers and those in low-paid jobs. While it may have seemed unusual for a foreigner to wear it, I found it to be incredibly useful in shielding me from the summer heat and direct sunlight. Unfortunately, I left it on the train at the last stop in Uzhgorod. I hope the person who found it had enjoyed it as much as I did.

Lovely picture of you and your hat.

Hats have a habit of staying with us after we lose them. In early June of 1970 I forgot to pick up my old-fashioned salt&pepper flat woolen cap when I got a ride while hitchhiking through the Tantramar Marshes of New Brunswick. Fifty miles on, I noticed its absence. And more than fifty years on, I still miss it!

What an idea, possibly it is true. Things also have lives. And they differ, too. Actually I still do have a straw 'sombrero' hat that my father bought and was wearing in Cuba. That time, I already loved that hat. When I find a photo scan with that hat, I shall post it.

Just a camera and an anarchic spirit will be enough!

"Turns out I’m Guy Fawkes’ long-lost doppelgänger-though I’d rather spark joy than spark gunpowder plots. Let’s keep Catholicism optional in the UK, like pineapple on pizza. (No offense to 1605’s most chaotic arsonist-you do you, boo. )"
