Bluebell closeup

An experiment with macro focus-stacking in the camera. This one turned out pretty well, but the slightest breeze is enough to make the stacked result blurry.

Our local woodland is a blue wash of native bluebells at this time of year. A lot of gardens have the Spanish bluebells in bloom (larger, more upright flowers) and the woodland edge has a mixture of both varieties, and their hybrids.

The real Mc.Coy blubell, which is becoming a tad rare these days because of cross pollintaion with the far less desirable Spanish species. The Spanish flowers at the edge of this woodland ought to be taken off before they open.
A really lovely shot.

Excellent work! I have never tried focus stacking lacking the patience for it;-)

Gavin Johnson replied to Gudrun:

Gudrun, I feel like a bit of a cheat, as technology helped me a lot here. Modern Canon camera bodies have a built-in stacking mode. You set the desired number of images and the amount to step the focal plane between shots; press the shutter button and the camera does all the hard work then creates a stacked jpg (if everything stays still and the camera can align the images). Much easier than fiddling in Photoshop :-)

Gudrun replied to Gavin Johnson:

Ah, I see! My 6D cannot do this. Still, for the time being I'll stick to the old camera as I also have a 40D and a 600D gathering dust in the cupboard;-)
