Geometry. The left part of the picture does have motion, which stairs generally provide, but the building on the right is just a big, static block. A decorative block, but it doesn't go anywhere. But its presence does weigh the stairs for some reason - I see them heading down, not up. But I grow fanciful - no?
Thanks, Denis. I wouldn't like to live there, either. Toronto, where this was taken, is in love with glass buildings, which make the hot summers hot and the cold winters colder. If the building had projecting balconies, they would at least serve as brise-soleils in the summer, but no, they decided on recessed ones.
