Well, it looks like it a Frank Meadow Sutcliffe inspired image the East Pier at Whitby in shower curtain form…
A nice jeu d'esprit plucked from the everyday.

John FitzGerald replied to Steve Bucknell:

Thanks, Steve, especially for acquainting me with Sutcliffe. A brilliant photographer, and one who was excommunicated for a single photograph. Quite the lad. Then Edward VII, also quite the lad but also head of the church that excommunicated him, bought a copy of it.

Steve Bucknell replied to John FitzGerald:

I didn’t know that. Quite a story.

John FitzGerald replied to Steve Bucknell:

He could have avoided excommunication if he'd agreed to remove the photo from public view, but he wouldn't. He seems to have been excommunicated only at the church he attended, but it's still an interesting story.

Steve Bucknell replied to John FitzGerald:

Makes me wonder in what places his photos of those boys would still be deemed unacceptable. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose, as a Canadian might say.
