This is another photo I thought I might post in the World Photography Day group before learning it's only for photos "that are a celebration of the art, craft, science and history of photography." This is a celebration of one of my neighbours who was inspired by Diwali to paint her house in a mix of pastel colours.

Please have a look at the large version (type Z).

This works well, with the silhouetted leaves in the foreground and coloured walls behind, John.

John FitzGerald replied to tiabunna:

Thanks, George. I was trying for that. Could have used a bit longer lens, I think.

Lovely light and nicely sharp silhouetted leaves. I like the hint of colours behind the trees - your neighbour's colour scheme looks "interesting".

I can't remember reading about the "celebration of the art, craft, science and history of photography" and if I did, I ignored it and took a photo that I liked. Isn't that what it's all about?

John FitzGerald replied to Keith Burton:

Thanks, Keith. You should always read the rules -- that way you know what you're ignoring. The terms in the quotation are so nebulous, too, that I could have justified posting anything. I probably didn't have enough coffee that day.

A creepy surveillance shot????

John FitzGerald replied to Denis Croissant:

It could be, I suppose, Denis. I've talked to the owner a couple of times, though, and she knows I like her house and won't shoot the interior. That's why I haven't photographed her attractive front step; the windows downstairs are usually open.

Denis Croissant replied to John FitzGerald:

I was being slightly tongue in cheek John but can you believe all this baggage has to be taken into account these days?

John FitzGerald replied to Denis Croissant:

Well, I've always avoided shooting open windows, Denis. But yes, you do have to worry about a lot of things these days. Of course, right-wing political correctness was rampant when I was growing up in the 50s and 60s. Then all of a sudden it was swept away. I remember watching the opening scene of Frank Zappa's 200 Motels in 1971 and thinking "Five years ago he would have gone to jail for this". In fact, six years before he had gone to jail for far less. But the shift was temporary. These days he'd probably be doing life for offending the left wing. And possibly the right wing, too. He was good at offending everybody.
