Liverpool Street Station, London, 2013

The station opened in 1875 and was designed by Edward Wilson, an engineer for the Great Eastern Railway.

I recommend the larger view (type Z).

John FitzGerald replied to Ulrich John:

...when people at the station were chiefly worried about bombs (the station was damaged in the Bishopsgate bombing in 1993).Constant messages about how unattended luggage would be destroyed, soldiers with automatic rifles patrolling. I guess automatic rifles aren't much use against COVID-19, though.

Buildings designed by engineers always impress me, José. These days Santiago Calatrava is showing the advantages of being both an engineer and an architect.

John FitzGerald replied to Léopold:

Yes, it would be nice to travel again, but I'm not counting on being able to in the near future.

Quite apart from the engineering in the building, they made a point of giving an ornamental finish in those times.

John FitzGerald replied to tiabunna:

And it's based on the design of a cathedral, George, although these days he view of the nave is blocked by two storeys of shops. You an get a shot of the train shed from a few spots, though, like this platform that leads to the left luggage office.
