Hopeful for more milk

Sheldrick Wildlife Trust operates and elephant orphanage which we had the pleasure of visiting when we were in Nairobi. What an amazing place to get to visit. We have a zoo here in Portland, Oregon that supports elephants worldwide. We were the first zoo where an elephant was born in captivity, way back in 1962, Packy. Our zoo keepers treated the elephants in ways that made them comfortable enough for them to mate. Other zoos learned from us! The zoo does training for people around the world and has been very helpful in helping the populations in the wild. Having a baby born at our zoo helped our community become aware of elephant difficulties in the wild and invest in the great work our zoo does.

We have a new baby elephant now! Just 7 months old now. www.oregonzoo.org/news/hello-baby-oregon-zoo-elephant-rose-tu-delivers-again

The other elephants were so much larger than he was and they fawned all over him. When he needed a break from the attention, he would stand by one of the keepers.
