Verreaux's eagle-owl (Explored)

Samburu/Buffalo Springs National Reserve
Kenya

Verreaux's eagle-owl is the largest owl in Africa, measuring up to 66 cm (26 in) in total length. It inhabits dry, wooded savanna. I saw this owl early one morning as I was exiting my tent. It stood still for a few photos and then flew off.

The owl managed to tangle himself in an dead acacia branch, complete with thorns. He quickly untangle himself and flew away, appearing none the worse for the experience.
