In front: the Oléron Bridge (2,862 m long) and Fort Louvois, the last maritime structure commissioned by King Louis XIV to be built by Vauban for the protection of the coastline. It is clearly visible as you cross the bridge at the start (see 2nd PiP).
Seen from behind: the walls of the Château-d’Oléron citadel, a military fortification built in the 17th century to protect the southern part of Oléron island(1st PiP).
PiP).
