They're not really sad, Carol. They gave their beauty to us and now it's time to rest. I really like this picture.

Ecobird replied to Old Owl:

Thank you very much John. They made me smile anyway and they were Kings for the day, brightening up the beach and maybe decorating sandcastles or similar. I like the stories they put in my head. Maybe a gift and the recipient couldn't take them home or didn't want them. Or maybe just used to mark their position when someone left the beach to get refreshments or use the toilets. I like the thought that it is time for them to rest after they have shone for us. Thank you

ils ont été placés là par une main humaine ?

Ecobird replied to Dominique 60:

I imagine visitors to the beach pushed them into the sand and then left them behind Dominique. A strange but beautiful sight. They may have been decoration or maybe if the children were at the water's edge they may have been put there so they could easily see where the family were gathered. It was nice to see them anyway.

Best wishes Carol

Its hard to believe that they could ever had lived in this sand Carol as they like nutrient-rich soil with lots of compost. Maybe somebody planted them just as they were flowering? That being said, a most evocative capture. Well done.

Cheers. Herb

Ecobird replied to Herb Riddle:

No, I imagine someone 'planted' them yesterday,. I just thought is was quite surreal seeing them there on the beach and I love sunflowers anyway so took a shot of them. They brightened up the day. I imagine someone may have used them like we used to push paper flags and shells into our sandcastles. Kings of the castle for a day!!!!

Best wishes Carol

I don't think they grew there. That's the work of a jokester. ;-)

Ecobird replied to polytropos:

You are right I am sure. Maybe someone used them to decorate a sandcastle or something or even were left because they wouldn't have survived the journey home. It was quite surreal seeing them in the sand but they brought some colour to a dull day and made me smile
