Happy Days! HBM!

Ed's Diner, Inverness. We were very excited to find this Amercian Diner in Inverness. On our first visit there were even small jukeboxes on the table and 50's art work on the walls.

It reminded me of Fonzie in 'Happy Days' and you could almost expect him to walk in slicking back his hair!!

We were sad when on another visit we found the diner closed up. A crying shame.

The sign says 'No Dancing In the Aisles' Well 'Ain't That A Shame'

You can listen here to Fats Domino and 'A'Int That A Shame'

A fascinating place perfectly in style!

Ecobird replied to Gudrun:

Thank you very much Gudrun. With Rock and Roll on the juke box and the decor and food Roger was in his element. He was gutted when we arrived and found it was closed. The place was a dream with pictures of 50's cars and girls dressed in the fashion of the day.

I remember the show, watched it in the seventies when I was an exchange student to the US. The place looks swell ;-)

Too bad it's closed ...

Ecobird replied to Erhard Bernstein:

I am pleased you remember the show and like the diner Erhard. Even the artwork was prfect, - 50;s fashions and cars and even the ladies bathroom was decorated nicely - I think from memory a winking girl saying 'Looking good' or similar. Maybe they spent too much on the detail but it was a shmae they went bust.

Oh, this is totally cool. I dined in several of those when I lived in the USA. It was tons of fun :-)
Great choice of matching music as well :-))

HBM and have a wonderful week, Carol!

Ecobird replied to Edna Edenkoben:

Thank you Edna. It was a new experience for us. Roger was in his element playing all his Rock and Roll favourites on the juke book at the table. I have to say the artwork on the walls was perfect. The cars, the fashions etc were just spot on.

I am pleased it brought back some memories for you too.

HBM and have a good week

A great "1950s traditional" style milkbar, Carol. What a shame indeed that it's now closed. HBM.

Lovely colours and reflections, Carol. Many places have ceased trading over the past few years. Probably 'twas ever thus, but we never noticed before. Ah well, 'sigh'. HBM anyway, let's enjoy what's still here, eh?

Ecobird replied to Old Owl:

Thank you John. You may be right. This must have been our second visit as the juke boxes were no longer on the tables and as you can see it wasn't busy. They must have closed not too long afterwards because it was shut up and in adn=ministration by our next visit. We wondered if they had overstretched themselves as it couldn't have been cheap to set it up with all the chrome and artwork and juke boxes. There was even artwork in the bathrooms.. nice to have had the memories though.

I think that in our town it is definitely more noticeable now. In the past when one shop emptied it was filled up with charity shops and phone shops and bookies. Now the life blood has gone from the town centres, - costly to park, empty shops, and a pedestrianised centre full of drunks and homeless people. No wonder people shop on line! Sad tto see but that is progress I guess!!
