Dieser beeindruckende Rest des Königspalastes von Knossos auf Kreta findet sich häufig in Geschichtsbüchern. Auch ich habe als Schüler dieses Bild oft bestaunt. Das Fresko hinter den Säulen zeigt einen Stier mit goldenen Hörnern vor einem Olivenbaum. Der Stier war ein heiliges Tier, das mit Fruchtbarkeit, Stärke und Macht in Verbindung gebracht wurde. Er war vermutlich auch ein Symbol für den Gott des Himmels oder der Natur, der über Regen, Fruchtbarkeit und Leben herrschte.

These impressive remains of the royal palace of Knossos (Crete) are often found in history books. As a schoolboy, I too often marvelled at this image. The fresco behind the columns shows a bull with golden horns in front of an olive tree. The bull was a sacred animal associated with fertility, strength and power. It was probably also a symbol of the god of the sky or nature, who ruled over rain, fertility and life.
