Als Baumaterial wurde schon damals (seit der Dvaravati-Zeit, ca. 6. bis 11. Jahrhundert n. Chr.) Laterit verwendet, der mit Kalkstuck überzogen wurde. Dieser verwitterte mit der Zeit, so dass heute bei vielen alten (Tempel-)Anlagen der rote Laterit zu sehen ist.
