Canada Tour Old Hazelton 1 xPiP

Two landmarks of the village of Hazelton.
The Parish House and St Paul's Anglican Church in Old Hazelton.
Hazelton is located at the confluence of the Skeena and Bulkley Rivers, at the foot of the Stekyoden in the Coast Mountains. The village was established in 1866 and developed into the center of the Northwest. Old trails became much-used routes for dogsleds, riders, and transport wagons to gold miners in the Cariboo and Yukon. Hazelton served as the starting point for overland trips and the paddle wheel steamers that went to Prince Rupert on the coast.
The Gitxsan have been the guardians and protectors of the land and the important trading post for thousands of years. Today, the Gitxsan and non-Indigenous people live side by side as friends, family and neighbors.
Our town is characterized by the beautiful, historic buildings and Gitxsan culture that transport the visitor to another time.
