Salt marshes
The salt marshes at the southern edge of the Arcachon basin, near the town of La Teste de Buch, a large maritime nature reserve.
The salt marshes were dammed in the early 1930s.
Important species of salt marshes are the Azores Ophiogloss, an extremely rare small fern, the Blue Throat (Passerine), the European Tortoise (Cistude) and the European Otter.
The salt marshes offer protection to the existing species and, at the same time, their use, which mainly consists of hunting and migration, is regulated.
