Taken for 'The Sunday Challenge': "Unusual or odd shaped items"

This is Basingstoke's "Mother and Child Sculpture" in Wote Street. When erected it caused a bit of a hoo-haa with members of the council wanting it moved away from public display to avoid upsetting passers by, but it remains, and is known locally as 'Wote Street Willie'

When does abstract art not cause public outcries? There are always some who will complain and get their 15 seconds/minutes/days of fame. and after that life returns to normal.

What a hoot with that name and the sculpture is certainly an odd shape but so much of the beauty of art is in the eye of the beholder.

Like music (my main discipline) abstract art often needs to be given a title to explain what it is about, I have to admit that even when told the subject matter here I could never relate the 'title' to the artwork. My loss, no-doubt!

That looks spectacular against the textures and colors of brickwork. Absolutely wonderful framing!
