Madagascar, The Rova of Antananarivo
The Rova of Antananarivo is a royal palace complex in Madagascar that was the home of the sovereigns of the Kingdom of Imerina in the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as of the rulers of the Kingdom of Madagascar in the 19th century.
The Ruva served as the royal residence until the establishment of French rule in Madagascar in 1896. Since 1897, the Ruva has housed the Historical Museum.
In 1995, on the eve of its planned inscription as a World Heritage Site, the palace burned down. It has since been rebuilt from the ashes.
