Effective intersection of the horizontal ripples and the vertical grasses. The fallen tree occupies the top left corner as a strong counterpoint. I love the dark shadows underneath. The almost monochromic presentation of the scene conveys the desolation of December: the moistness, the semi-permanent darkness, the sleep.

Thank you. After taking many photographs from the banks of the reservoir, this one survived the subsequent cull. I couldn’t describe to myself why I felt it worth saving, but your appreciation of it helps me understand it a little better.
