Loch Caron

Stromferry Slipway, There is no ferry any more, however when a rockfall closed the A890 near Strathcarron Tunnel this was used to ferry cars and foot passenger across from Strome until the rocks were stabilised many weeks later. The vessel used was the boat from the Glenelg ferry during it closed season.

That’s interesting about more recent use of the slipway. I didn’t realise that happened though I vaguely remember the rockfall closure.

Roger (Grisly) replied to Colin Ashcroft:

Thank you, Colin, it happened in 2013 with a ferry working this route for the first time since 1970, the only road diversion involved a 130-mile road trip in each direction. However, routes to avoid the troublesome tunnel section of A890 are now being considered.

A far better photo here than I managed to take in very poor weather whilst visiting this year from Kyle of Lochalsh. I know my Sister in Law and her husband did this ferry run a few times many years back now. The hamlet is not even a one-horse-pony town nowadays even though the train halt is still there

A bit of the beaten track for the NC500 route I hasten to add Roger.

Thanks for sharing in the North Coast 500 Group, Herb

Roger (Grisly) replied to Herb Riddle:

Thank you, Herb,
It is only a very short distance from the route, and we have accepted an image into the group from here already

So unusual to see a red post-box and a red telephone box next to each other.............certainly a rarity down South, but maybe not in Scotland. They anchor the frame perfectly!

Beautiful light and a lovely tranquil view across the loch. The sky reflected on the calm waters is gorgeous.

A delightful shot Roger..!!
