Survivor.

Built into a pebble wall at Ferrices Farm, Steart on the Somerset coast, this Post Box has withstood the salty air of the Bristol Channel and Atlantic storms since the reign of Queen Victoria, 1837 -1901. (Seven Monarchs)
Postmen have collected mail from this box in all weathers for at least 120 years, mail would have been transported to the nearest town of Bridgwater by foot or horseback when it was installed (experiments with motor transport for mail only started nationally in 1897)

Think of the national and world events that have occurred since the box was installed
World wars, The Titanic sinking, Votes for Women, Talking Films, the list is endless.

My Tuesday post box offering,

Ein stabiler Briefkasten, der viele Jahre alt ist. Ob die heutigen neuen Briefkästen so lange halten?

Roger (Grisly) replied to Schussentäler:

Thank you. I cannot image mail boxes will have a place in society for much longer,

What a great find and photo............the box has survived through so many changes. I hope it remains through many more (although I note your reply to Schussentäler, above).

Roger (Grisly) replied to Keith Burton:

Many thanks Keith, the small hamlet is now completely intertwined in the WWT wetlands reserve however was previously a quiet place with just a few summer walkers, like us.
It is still a wonderful place for Sunsets and murmurations.
