Diese Redewendung ist tatsächlich ganz wörtlich gemeint: "Ein Apfel am Tag hält dir den Arzt vom Leib". Zum ersten Mal tauchte diese Redewendung 1866 in einer walisischen Zeitschrift auf, damals hieß sie noch: "Eat an apple on going to bed, and you'll keep the doctor from earning his bread"...
