Werkbundsiedlung 1927: Einfamilienhaus von Hans Scharoun

Weißenhofsiedlung was built in record time in 1927 as part of the Werkbund exhibtion about new forms of building. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was responsible for the project for which 16 renowned architects (among them Le Corbusier with Pierre Jeanneret, Mart Stam, Peter Behrens, Walter Gropius, Max and Bruno Taut, J.J.P.Oud, Hans Scharoun and Mies v.d.Rohe himself) designed houses.
Of the original 21 houses 11 are left, most of the others were destroyed in WWII bombing raids, among them the ones by Gropius and Taut. But the war thankfully also stopped Nazi plans to demolish all houses of what they called "Araberdorf" (Arab village).
In 1958 Weißenhofsiedlung got protected status, in 2016 the Le Corbusier buildings were awarded UNESCO World Heritage status..

When the building is planned by an architect of this enormous prestige, the lines and volumes immediately come to the fore!!
Very well taken, Gudrun!
Great text too!

Sehr eigenwillig und gewöhnungsbedürftig. Mein Geschmack ist es nicht...

These were obviously well ahead of their time Gudrun. They still look very contemporary.

Two beautifully captured images......full of great detail and captured in nice light. Interesting links too.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

...für 1927 sehen die aber Hypermodern aus! Waren ihrer Zeit voraus!

Ich bin kein großer Fan dieser Architektur, aber sie ist ein sehr interessantes Zeugnis dieser Zeit und darüber hinaus ihrer Zeit weit voraus!!!

Doesn't look 1920s vintage, ahead of its time. Presumably each house is unique in design, would love to see the rest.

Damals "modern" und heute immer noch ansehnlich. Guter Beitrag zur Gruppe "1:1 batiments..."
