Humberstone - Hospital Porch

Situated in the Atacama desert and deserted since the mid 20th century the former saltpeter works of Humberstone and Santa Laura were inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage in 2005 and also placed on the list of World Heritage in danger (from 2005-2019) to help mobilize money for their preservation (difficult climate, earthquake damage).

Thank you so much, Amelia! I have amended my description, thank you for noticing that it's no longer on the danger list! When we visited most surfaces were covered with a crust of salt from the camanchaca (sea mist) and everything seemed to be on the verge of disintegration.
