Toronto houses #18

Bay-and-gable houses, a common style in Toronto. New buildings are often made in a simplified version of them. They were an effective way to conserve space when land was expensive. I guess they still are.

John FitzGerald replied to Roger (Grisly):

I know the type of English house of which you speak, Roger, but I hadn't thought about them till you mentioned them. Thanks for pointing that out.

An interesting architectural image. Similar to some houses I saw in Montreal.

John FitzGerald replied to tiabunna:

Thanks, Steve. Montreal architecture on the whole seems far superior to Toronto's.

The style of the houses is very pleasant John.............I really like the ornate brickwork - something that probably wouldn't be cost effective to do nowadays.

Very well captured.

John FitzGerald replied to Keith Burton:

Thanks, Keith. I don't think brickwork like this was all that cost-effective when the house was built. I can think of only one other bay-and-gable in Toronto with brickwork like this, and I've seen hundreds of them.
