My family grows them on our property, and they are sweet and delicious.

I think you've put me on the right track here, kiiti. I tagged these as red currants but thought they might be serviceberries. Well, you're obviously very familiar with them so I did some further research and concluded they are serviceberries, which are sweet, and not red currants, which are tart. Thanks.
