Looks very ancient and appears to have been chipped out of the solid boulder behind..?
The whole quarry looks most interesting on the '360' G/E street view photo.. I'd guess much stone was quarried to build Cuitadella itself.,. Cheers from Dj,

There are several quarries like these around the island, although not as big. They have been used for centuries. Only two or three are still active, producing material mostly for decoration. All in all, they have been replaced by cinder blocks.
