Our Avon is in Northam in WA, where my wife and I lived for three years. Though it is called Avon with a short a (as in apple) rather than the long a (as in alehouse). Ours dries up a lot in summer, too. Doesn't look as inviting as this one either.

No, not wistful at all. I liked Northam, though it did get very hot. The river runs through the town and is generally pleasing. Where I live now (and have done for 24 years) is far nicer for me, being on the Indian Ocean and therefore more temperate in climate and within an easy 45 minute train ride to Perth. And, of course, I'd much rather be in Australia than anywhere else, regardless of the pleasantly bucolic landscapes and gentle rivers of the old country.
