The Vicars' Close

Situated very near Chichester Cathedral West Sussex, (part of which can be seen behind the houses), The Vicars’ Close was established in 1475 to house approx 28 Vicars’ Choral of the Cathedral in spartan single-room chambers.

Over the years they were eventually converted into four large houses, all of which have been extended to the rear. As far as I can establish two are now privately owned and two are still used by the cathedral.

An interesting find there Keith,...28 Vicars,. I wouldn't think the police were needed very often to sort out drunken singing and bottle throwing parties... :-)
Cheers from Dj.

Well - you never know what vicars get up to on their off work days.

Keith Burton replied to David G Johnson:

Thank you David..............but according to my research, the Vicars were often in trouble for things like that :-)))

It reminds me a little bit of Wells Cathedral, but somewhat gentler. I bet that wisteria will look fabulous when it eventually opens.

Keith Burton replied to Amelia:

While I was googling this Vicars' Close one for Wells came up as well. The Wells one is far grander than this one!

Thanks for dropping in Amelia.

How lovely it looks with a glimpse of the beautiful Cathedral behind the pretty row of houses, which are much sought after nowadays. The hedges are very neatly trimmed and your sky is beautiful Keith.
