HWW Middlesborough North Yorkshire 19th October 2024
Dating from 1877 Middlesbrough's North Eastern Railway station was damaged by bombing in 1942 and the remains of its overall roof dismantled in 1954. However there is still some impressive Victorian ironwork around the site. This ornate wall and adjacent awning roof supports are on platform 1.
For most of the station's existence I suspect they were hidden under layers of black dirt and dust caused by air pollution and exhaust from steam engines but in recent years they have cleaned up very nicely.
HWW to everyone. Enjoy the day.
