Assassin Fly

Assassin Fly or Robber Fly, Ommatius sp., on Perennial Basil plant. Named thus because it catches and eats other insects, flies, bees, wasps. It catches the prey in mid-air usually.

Hi Jonathan, Thank you for your lovely compliment. The picture was taken with a Nikon 85mm lens on F5 aperture which provided subject in focus but also a bokeh background. A tripod is essential to minimise blur. I take several pictures of the same subject and use the best one as some will be blurred due to wind, movement and shaky hands!
